ABC Electric was founded in 1932 by Arthur Badley Whitmer and his wife, Carolyn. Originally, AB performed electrical contracting and sold appliances from a store close to 23rd and "O." He believed strongly in treating people the way he wanted to be treated. His philosophy continues to hold to this day.
After working with AB for several years, his son Arthur J. took the company's reins in 1950. He then established ABC Electric as Lincoln's preferred residential, commercial, and industrial contractor. AJ was later joined by his son William (Bill) Whitmer, who graduated from UNL with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1959.
With high interest rates and the onset of an economic downturn in the 1980s, work was not easy to come by. This was further complicated by Arthur's death in 1984, resulting in Bill being elevated to president.
Bill passed on his duties to John Whitmer in 2002. As AB's great-grandson, John has worked with ABC since graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a BS in Construction Management in 1988. He is the fourth generation within the family business.
ABC Electric has been associated with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers since AB Whitmer joined Local Union 265 in 1917. ABC has nearly a century of honest experience. With the ability to provide residential, commercial, and industrial services, ABC has cemented itself as the full-service electrical repair contractor that Lincoln can trust.
